Dreadlocks are a universal phenomenon, throughout history people of various cultures had dreadlocks. We could say that what we today know as dreadlocks is one of the oldest and most universal hairstyles. The first known samples of dreadlocks date from ancient Egypt when the clergy and the ordinary people started to be painted various artifacts with dreadlock-like hairstyles and wigs. There were many reasons for dreadlocks in many different cultures. They can express religious or spiritual beliefs, they can manifest ethnic pride or they can simply be fashion accessory.
One way to make dreadlocks is the natural way, that is, by washing your hair every day, using shampoos with no regenerators and with no combing afterwards. Hair starts to frizz naturally and then you have to shape a dreadlock rolling separated locks between your palms. This whole process can last up to several months, depending on the hair type.
A faster method (the method we use) is “tearing” or teasing the hair, which makes the base of a dreadlock (near the hair root), and the rest of the dreadlock is made by crocheting the locks.
In order to be satisfied with the look of your dreadlocks, you need to take care of them. This means washing and crocheting your hair regularly. You should use a balm free shampoo balm and when drying your hair, you should curl locks by twisting them with your hands. At the end, you need to blow dry every dreadlock thoroughly, and this can take up to several hours (depending on the length and width of the dreadlock).
